The beginning of a new year can bring mixed emotions. While some feel hopeful, others may feel overwhelmed, tired or disconnected. If this season feels heavy, please know that you are not alone and there is no "right" way to feel in January. This is a space for care, compassion and support at your own pace. 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding Technique
If you're feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or disconnected, this short exercise may help bring your attention back to the present moment. Try it at your own pace.
5 - Name five things you can see. (Look around and notice shapes, colors or light. )
4 - Name four things you can feel. (Notice physical sensations, such as your feet on the floor or the fabric of your clothing. )
3 - Name three things you can hear. Listen for nearby or distant sounds.
2 - Name two things you can smell.
1 - Name one thing you can taste.
There's no right or wrong way to do this.
Pause at any step if needed.
