As we move into spring, we’re reminded that growth often happens gradually — sometimes beneath the surface before we can see it.
Resilience is not about avoiding stress or pretending everything feels okay. It is about building strength in small, consistent ways. Just like muscles strengthen with repetition, the brain strengthens the pathways we use most often.
This month, we’re focusing on how small thoughts, actions and daily habits can support long-term mental health. Even small steps matter.
One helpful practice is noticing small wins. At the end of each day, try writing down one thing you did well — no matter how small. Recognizing progress, even in simple moments, can help reinforce healthier mental patterns.
Warmly, Serenity Psychiatry and Wellness Team

“Our brains are made up of complex pathways which are in constant communication. Practicing positive thinking influences positive behaviors, and the neuro plastic brain rewards us with a seasoned path to success over time. As Olympic Gold Medalist, Eileen Gu stated so inspirationally, “You can control what you think. You can control how you think. And therefore, you can control who you are.” - Kelly Doyle, PMHNP
Small Practices That Build Resilience
10-Minute Light Reset:
Spend 10 minutes outside or near natural light this week. Light helps regulate mood and sleep patterns.
Thought Reframe Practice:
Notice one recurring negative thought. Ask:
Is this completely true?
What is a more balanced way to say this?
Repeat the new thought gently — repetition builds new pathways.
1-Minute Breathing Reset:
Try box breathing:
Inhale 4 seconds
Hold 4 seconds
Exhale 4 seconds
Hold 4 seconds
Repeat 4 times.
Spring Self-Care Spotlight: Botox
Self-care involves attention to both your mental and physical health. Feeling confident in your appearance can sometimes support an overall sense of wellness.
Some research suggests that relaxing certain facial muscles with Botox may influence the way the brain processes emotions; which may result in reduced symptoms of depression and anxiety.
