February Insights

February often brings a strong focus on love and relationships. While this time of year can highlight connection and closeness, it can also bring up stress, loneliness, grief or complicated emotions. There is no “right” way to feel this month. Relationships—whether with partners, family members, friends or ourselves—play an important role in our mental and emotional well-being.
Our relationships can significantly influence how we feel day to day. Supportive, healthy connections can improve mood, reduce stress and create a sense of safety and belonging. At the same time, relationship conflict, loss or disconnection can contribute to anxiety, depression, emotional exhaustion and difficulty regulating emotions.
Early life experiences and attachment patterns can shape how we connect with others as adults. Struggling in relationships does not mean something is “wrong” with you—it means you are human and these patterns are common and treatable.
Warmly, Serenity Psychiatry and Wellness Team

"Many of us have pets at home and research shows just how therapeutic animals can be. They offer a non judgmental presence and help regulate our nervous system by lowering cortisol, providing structure/routine, increasing oxytocin, and reducing feelings of loneliness. This is so helpful during periods of stress, low mood, and anxiety.” - Christine Lisa, PMHNP
Self - Love, Boundaries and Emotional Well-Being
Self-love is not about constant positivity or perfection. It often looks like:
Setting boundaries to protect your emotional well-being.
Allowing yourself to rest and say no when needed.
Acknowledging your feelings without judgment.
Pause and notice your emotions before responding during conflict.
Use calm, clear communication to express needs.
Take breaks when emotions feel overwhelming.
Practice grounding or relaxation techniques to regulate stress.
